De/Un-Stashing Challenge '09

I'm borrowing the inspiration for my resolution from my friend Heather this year:

I resolve to not buy any fabric. I will sew up everything I own. And then I will only buy for specific projects.

That last part is the killer. Because I love to buy fabric, or anything, really, that is a good deal and has potential. I think it may take me so long to sew everything I own that I may give up sewing before I have the chance to buy more fabric.

Heather also resolved to not buy any yarn and knit up everything she has. I'm not planning to buy more yarn, but it would take me way longer than a year to knit up all my yarn at the rate I knit. Well, I'm not buying any more yarn after I buy a couple of skeins of Selah through a current co-op. I may just never have another chance to get it (and at a good deal), and I've been drooling over it forever!

So I guess I can start by admitting how much stash I have. And this isn't even current.

Yup, that's all fabric. And I estimate that I have at least 4 more large tubs' worth of fabric not shown here, so this picture is only about half. It's embarassing.

My yarn stash is not nearly as impressive, though. It mainly takes up 2 large tubs. That's since I culled out the stuff I decided I'd never use (mostly icky acrylics and a few weird novelty impulse-buy yarns). I say culled out; I mean tossed into two trash bags which still sit in the basement anyway.

So on to 2009! I've got plenty to keep me busy! I'll post my progress and projects along the way.

I have labels!

Aren't they sexy?

It's a very good thing that I like them--I've only got 1000 of them!
